SiteBar

Posted on 21 December 2004

As a frequent Internet user, I need to save plenty of important or interesting URLs. The problem is I use two Web Browser, Internet Explorer and Firefox; and I use several computers in the office and home. It is very difficult to organize my bookmarks, because it is scattered everywhere.

Finally I found SiteBar, a bookmark server based on PHP and MySQL. I installed in my webserver, that is http://www.hianoto.net/sitebar/sitebar.php. The installation was quite easy, except there was a misunderstanding in setting up the MySQL connection, but it was Ok.

The usage is quite easy and supports drag-and-drop operation. I even installed a SiteBar extension to Firefox. It also provides a user security level, which is very useful to my situation.

If you have plenty of URLs bookmarked and need a centralized bookmark server, then I strongly recommend SiteBar. Anyway, if it does not suit you, then just uninstall it because it is an Open Source program. Have a nice try.
